Reasons To Live In The Albany, NY Area | HUNT Real Estate ERA

With Albany serving as New York State’s capital, there are many government career opportunities for those who have chosen that path. However, good government jobs are not the only reason to call the Albany area home.
Albany is nestled neatly between stunning Adirondack mountain ranges, providing a beautiful, majestic looking backdrop every day of the year. The city of Albany has a robust culture mixed with eclectic tastes and fine arts for everyone to enjoy.
Whether visiting or taking a day to explore, there’s always something to do in or around Albany. We’ve listed some of the top reasons to live in Albany, and why you should consider moving here.
Events To Participate In:
1. Fun for the whole family, the Harvest Festival at the Farmers’ Museum provides great entertainment for the upcoming fall season. This event is located in Cooperstown, NY throughout the month of September. It’s a short drive from Albany and you can always pay a visit to the Baseball Hall Of Fame when you’re there.
2. The Hudson River Sight Seeing Cruise is a relaxing event to enjoy beautiful scenery and delight in the sights of the famous Hudson River. The boat departs from Albany and runs until October 27, 2013.
3. Running at the Olana State Historic Site in Hudson, NY is the Maine Sublime: Frederic Edwin Church’s Landscapes of Mount Desert & Mount Katahdin. You’ll get to see an up-close view of the famous artists’ work, and the historic site is always displaying interesting cultural pieces to check out.
One cannot overlook the beauty surrounding Albany. If you’re more of the adventurous type, there’s plenty to do outdoors in and around Albany.
Outdoor Activity:
1. The Colonie Riverfront Bike and Hike Trail runs along the Hudson and Mohawk rivers through Albany and Schenectady. This trail boasts gorgeous scenery and is a total of 5.5 miles.
2. The Crossings of Colonie is another wonderful spot for outdoor fun. This place is ideal for walks, bike rides and leisure picnics. There’s a 3-acre pond for fishing and ice skating in the winter months.
Another great reason to love the area of Albany is the stable housing market. In an article on, Albany’s market survived the recession thanks to “a relatively stable local employment base and growing tech sector.” Also mentioned in the article was that Albany has “consistently ranked among the lowest metro areas in foreclosures per capita, as measured by RealtyTrac.”
We can’t overlook one of the area’s close neighbors: Saratoga Springs. Saratoga, located just under an hour from Albany, is one of the most popular places to visit in New York State, aside from NYC. The scenery alone is breathtaking; there is a walkable downtown with many shops, restaurants and nightlife, and the Saratoga performing arts center features the Philadelphia orchestra and NYC ballet during the year. Saratoga’s Racetrack (which just celebrated its 150th anniversary) provides exhilaration for everyone.
