Real Estate Industry Experience
Peter F. Hunt began his career in real estate as a licensed real estate salesperson in June, 1972, while still in college, working in the industry as a summer job. Following graduation, Mr. Hunt began selling houses again on a full-time basis, receiving the “Millionor” award for the first time in 1977, the year in which he received his broker’s license. In November of that year, he was named “Director of Recruitment and Training”, creating the Company’s first comprehensive training program, including segments on product knowledge, selling skills and market penetration. Creating the program also involved designing a training facility with audio and video equipment and a library. In 1978, Mr. Hunt received his first copyright through the publication of “Objectives”, a career planner and accountability system for agents. Also in 1978, his was appointed “sales manager” of our Amherst office, which he built from scratch to about 35 agents in less than a year. By 1980 Mr. Hunt had grown the residential brokerage from under 30 agents company-wide to about 120 in four residential offices. In 1982 Mr. Hunt was named a vice-president and then in 1985, President of the Residential Division.
In the spring of 1977, he was asked to teach a course in real estate in the adult education program in the Williamsville school system, creating “Realizing Real Estate”, a one-semester credit-free course in layman’s real estate. For a several years beginning in 1983, he was also a lecturer in the Department of Business Studies at the State University College at Buffalo, teaching a segment of the General Business Studies curriculum. At the local Realtor Association, Mr. Hunt served as a member of the Professional Standards Committee, and has served as a director since 1987. Mr. Hunt and two other brokers led the movement to make the MLS broker-owned (Western New York Real Estate Information Services, LLC), later serving as vice-president and president of its Board of Managers.
Since 1984, Mr. Hunt has founded Devere Capital Corporation, a mortgage banking firm, now doing business as “Hunt Mortgage”, The Hunt-Vanner Agency and Hunt Insurance, general insurance agencies, Realty Express, a fee-for-service real estate brokerage, and The Realty Club, a membership organization supplying homeownership services.
In 1990, Mr. Hunt created the first “Customer Service Center” for real estate in the industry. And in 1995, he opened the first broker-owned central showing service system known as “ProShow” that operates through live operators, on line and on proprietary software and serves all five Regions where the Company now operates. Mr. Hunt created the first-ever series of options for sellers listing their home, known as “Seller Select”, a buyer agency service package (“Buy Design”) and a unique commission plan for Agents called “Multicom”.
In 1992, Mr. Hunt acquired a title agency and formed Network Title Agency of New York. In March 2001, Hunt Real Estate expanded into Rochester, New York through the acquisition of Judy Columbus Real Estate and Relocation and has since acquired several additional offices and/or opened new offices in Greater Rochester, Central and Northern and the Capital Regions of New York, and Scottsdale and Tempe, Arizona. In 2002, Mr. Hunt and his brother, Stephen Hunt, merged Hunt Commercial Real Estate Corporation back into Hunt Real Estate Corporation.
Hunt Real Estate joined the ERA system in March, 2002, now operating as Hunt Real Estate ERA in Buffalo Niagara, Greater Rochester, Central and Northern New York, the Capital Region of NY and Greater Phoenix, AZ with a total of 34 residential and four commercial sales offices.
Peter F. Hunt is currently the Chairman and CEO of Hunt Real Estate Corporation, founded by his grandfather, Charles S. Hunt, in 1911. Under Peter Hunt’s leadership, HREC’s sales have risen to $1.76 billion in 2013.

A Western New York native, Peter F. Hunt graduated from Amherst Central High School and St. Lawrence University (Canton, New York, BA-Government), attended the London School of Economics and Political Science, and is currently a candidate for a Master of Science degree in Executive Leadership and Change from Daemen College. Mr. Hunt is married and has four children and two grandchildren, and resides in Buffalo.
