Peter & Mary Jo Hunt Named Philanthropists of the Year by the United Way Tocqueville Society


The United Way Tocqueville Society has named Peter & Mary Jo Hunt 2014 Philanthropists of the Year. The annual award is presented to recognize outstanding volunteer service and community commitment. Each year, the award winners are selected by past recipients.

The Hunt’s have been longtime contributors to the United Way. Between them they have served more than 15 years on the Board of Directors, and helped inspire tens of thousands of people to change lives in our community through philanthropy as chairs of the 2004 Campaign and of the Tocqueville Society in 2014.

“Peter and Mary Jo are a prime example of a family that is dedicated to making the community they live in a better place,” said Michael Weiner president and CEO of United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. “We are proud to honor them as the United Way Tocqueville Society Philanthropists of the Year.”

“Supporting the United Way and their continuing commitment to improve our community is near and dear to our entire family,” said Peter Hunt, Chairman and CEO of HUNT Real Estate Corporation. “This tribute is a great honor and we are extremely appreciative of their recognition.”

Michael is the New York State Senator. Senator Ranzenhofer serves as a citizen legislator who is a dedicated public servant who still works and volunteers in the community. He represents individuals and businesses in both Genesee and Erie County as a partner at Friedman & Ranzenhofer, P.C., with offices located in Akron, Batavia and Clarence.

Together, Peter Hunt leads the discussion with Michael on current issues that are occurring within NYS, which are gun laws, concerns for school funding & mandates,  and general business issues in regards to job development and taxes.

3/16 RADIO SHOW: GEORGE D. MAZIARZ

This week, Peter Hunt welcomes George D. Maziarz to the show!

George is New York Senator which encompasses Niagara County, Orleans County, and part of Monroe County. He helped develop “Megan’s Law,” the registry which enables law enforcement officers and communities to track the whereabouts of convicted sex offenders.

He also authored the Assisted Living Reform Act, which created a host of long-desired reforms in the assisted living industry to better protect seniors and consumers. And he successfully championed the effort to have New York State sign the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact to help manage the Great Lakes for generations to come.
